What the fuck are you even on about? Trump’s racism and xenophobia has been pretty fucking consistent over the years. If there’s one thing Trump has been steady on, it’s that. When has he ever gauged a reaction when it comes to his racially charged statements? He says them, says them again, and his base says it. So what this post is talking about is the short film: Unaccompanied: Alone in America, which is a dramatic representation of the plight of unaccompanied minors seeking refuge through America’s immigration courts.
As the Department of Justice does not allow recording devices in immigration courts the film maker used actors to recreate the process as best she could.
William C Snoufer is a retired Judge who agreed to return to the seat to help make the film, he is not someone actually judging these children and I think it was really commendable of him to be a part of this project.
Also I think it’s prudent to note, this project began work in 2014. Unaccompanied children have not had access to US immigration lawyers or translators since at least then, and probably longer. This is not a new problem for the US, just one that has been recently brought to light in the most horrific way possible.

This is issue is horrible, but William C Snoufer is not the villain in it! Judges still on the bench (and ICE, and the general system) are!!
We need to redefine recovery from “becoming neurotypical” to “learning to live a good life with a mental illness” cause in many cases the chase for the first gets in the way of the second.
Recovery doesn’t always mean “doesn’t have a mental illness anymore” – it can also mean:
Learning to cope with your symptoms in a healthy and constructive way.
Getting the accommodations and support that allows you to live with the impairments of your mental illness.
Learning to live a happy, fulfilling life despite your symptoms.
Knowing your limits and triggers and adjusting your life accordingly.
Learning to take care of your physical, mental and emotional health.
Learning to live with symptoms without having them control your life.
Finding and sticking to treatments that work for you.
Accepting and learning that even though you may not be able to live a “normal” life, you can still have a good life.
Many of us can’t expect the full recovery that we are told to strive towards, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t get better or that we shouldn’t work towards getting better, and it’s important that the language around mental illness and recovery reflects that.
