Once more, for the final time on “Mothering Invention”, we return. As is traditional when we reach the end of an arc, we’re both writing big sweeping looks at some of the series’ underlying themes. Starting with: legacy.
Alex: At the heart of WicDiv’s
premise, there is a deal. A severely shortened lifespan, in exchange for
artistic immortality – or immediate fame and fortune, if you want to look at it
that way. And a lot of the series, as it’s developed over the past four years,
has been asking: who the hell would be willing to strike that deal?
Being completely honest, at some points during those years –
I’ve thought that maybe I would. Not for the fame or fortune, so much, but the
idea of creating something that could last beyond myself. ‘Legacy’ has a nice
ring to it, you have to admit.
“Mothering Invention” has examined various ways people
fantasise about achieving immortality. And has made it perfectly clear that
this fantasy is foolish at best – and monstrous at worst.
This has happened to me before when I was in college at a frat party. This girl comes squeezing herself in between me and my friend and throws her arms around me. “Amanda, I am so glad you decided to come!” I was so confused and just figured she was drunk and mistaked me for someone else, until I saw the panic on her face. She leaned close and whispered that a guy was following her, was certain that he had put something in her drink and if I would please play along. I looked behind her and sure enough, some creep was watching her like a hawk. We invited her to hang out with us the rest of the night and even waited until her ride showed up just to make sure she was safe. Always look out for each other!
If you ever feel scared like this just come up to me like we have been friends since kindergarten, call me any name u can come up with ill play along.

And if you’re a guy and you notice some creep is following or stalking a girl, and that she’s obviously uncomfortable or panicked, go ahead and say hi, long time no see, pretend to be her cousin, and tell her discretly you noticed there was a shady guy. Ask her if something’s wrong, if she feels unsafe, if she wants your help (very important – she may not trust you enough, no one could blame her, don’t take it personally). (and don’t you dare take advantage of the help you offered for a flirt opportunity, that would make you no better than the creep)
We can all stop “witnessing and do nothing”, and set an example.

A BOTTLE containing a mystery liquid dating back to the time of
Jesus Christ has been hailed as a “unique” discovery after being
unearthed in Russia.
The 2,000-year-old artefact was uncovered on the site of the Phanagoria city, which was founded in the 6th century BC.
The ancient city was the largest Greek settlement on the Taman peninsula in the present-day Krasnodar Krai region of Russia.
The extraordinary object was discovered in the grave of a warrior in the Eastern Necropolis of the city.
It is filled with a mystery liquid which has not been identified.
Vladimir Kuznetsov, head of the expedition, described the discovery as “unique”.
He
said: “The discovery of the large glass filled with unknown liquid in
the sarcophagus of the Phanagorian horseman warrior is unique.”
The
discovery is the first of its kind, with Mr Kuznetsov revealing that
bottles previously found have been empty or full of soil.
He said: ”There are hundreds of similar bottles that were found in Phanagoria before that did not have the liquid.
“They were either empty or filled with soil.”
The large glass bottle contains a clear liquid with dark sediment at the bottom.
The discovery is the first time the expedition team have found liquid to have survived for that length of time.
Mr Kuznetsov said: “This is the first time me or my colleagues are seeing a liquid surviving that long.”
For what it’s worth, 2018 has been a really terrible year for the world,
but it’s been a really great year for archeologists digging up and
opening things that will unleash unspeakable eldritch horrors upon
humanity.
