I think people are really missing some information here, which is that the issue is not with Tarantino’s directing style– not entirely. Though it can certainly be argued that his violent, gore-mongering style has no place in a Trek film.
The issue is with the fact that he as a person is morally reprehensible and not what Star Trek represents.
He actively defended a child rapist. He has abused his actors. He creates unsafe work environments, and he knew what Harvey Weinstein was doing to women decades ago and said nothing– hell, he rewarded him; Weinstein has worked on every single one of Tarantino’s projects since Kill Bill.
Why would we reward this behavior by poisoning a beloved franchise that has always stood for a better future with his presence?
