robot-sex-guy:

man I rly worry þat impressionable undergrads/early masters students are gonna see One Particular Post on here and end up w a bunch of bad and unhelpful ideas on þis topic so I’m just gonna say:

  • you aren’t supposed to be able to understand a paper in one reading. þats not how þey work.
  • reading difficult technical material is a skill, and u don’t get any practice at it before university most of þe time. work on it.
  • some papers are badly written. most published papers aren’t. if your prof is asking you to read it, it probably isn’t.
  • it’s ok to get frustrated over not understanding a paper. give yourself time, go þrough it slowly, take a break when you need to, refer to a textbook when you’re missing some knowledge. it gets easier þe more you do it.

Sometimes a family is a single mom and her kids and the younger son’s D&D crew and the older son’s crush and that crush’s ex-boyfriend and an escaped victim of blacksite government science experiments with psionic powers and her secret adopted father the local chief of police and the mom’s boyfriend who works at Radio Shack and I think that’s beautiful.

DIE #1

WRITER: KIERON GILLEN
ARTIST / COVER: STEPHANIE HANS
VARIANT COVER: JAMIE MCKELVIE

DECEMBER 05 / 40 PAGES / FC / M / $3.99

THE WICKED + THE DIVINE writer KIERON GILLEN teams up with artist supernova STEPHANIE HANS (THE WICKED + THE DIVINE 1831, Journey Into Mystery) for her first ongoing comic! DIE is a pitch-black fantasy where a group of forty-something adults have to deal with the returning unearthly horror they barely survived as teenage role-players. If Kieron’s in a rush, he describes it as “Goth Jumanji.” That only captures a sliver of what you’ll find in oversized debut issue—where fantasy gets all too real.
